Week 12: Snowy Days
With this post, I will be half way to caught up (until tomorrow when a new week starts and the amount of caught-up-ness becomes an awkward fraction).
Snowy days make me happy! I love how the blanket of fresh snow changes the landscape so dramatically as to be almost unrecognizable. I love how the trees bend and change shape when the snow is heavy on their branches. I love how even tiny surfaces can have tall towers of beautiful white build up on them. I love how snowflakes look in the micro-instant before they melt on my mittens. I love how my cats sometimes get frustrated trying to hunt the flakes through the window. I know that shovelling is not something that most of us enjoy and driving in a snowstorm is pretty crappy too but let's focus on the positive - this is a gratitude blog after all.
We haven't had many snowy days this winter so I wasn't sure that this topic would be possible. But I did bring my camera out on two occasions and took enough photos to write this post. This pond is on the Wetzl Loop of the Voyageur Trail. The snow came after a long period of thaw and no snow so it was a hike rather than a snowshoe. Just look at that beauty and think about how different it was the day before.
See? Snow collects on the smallest surfaces.
Same pond, different angle.
Also on the Wetzl Loop, there are three junked vehicles. When it's warmer out, I want to go back with my macro lens and explore all the cool rust and interesting bits.
I am always amazed at the different ways snow sticks to trees.
Fungus collecting some snow.
A study in white on white (or grey on grey - I should have lightened that up a bit).
One of these days, I'm going to get a decent photo of the snow on the sides of trees, I just need the perfect bit of forest (and maybe to bring my different lenses with me and make more of an effort). Anyways, I love how after a windy snowy day, you can tell which way the wind was blowing.
And that's it for today. Time to dig out the photography books for some instruction and inspiration.
